This program is for campers age 7 to 14.

Our autism program is so much fun for our campers and staff! We do all the same activities that a typical session does (swimming, archery, ropes course and more), and we structure those activities so they are accessible for campers with autism. Each activity begins with a thorough explanation of what to do, how long it will last, and what to do if someone doesn’t want to participate. Campers have customized visual schedules and/ or written lists of what they will be doing, and there are tons of opportunities for choices throughout the day.

Campers are organized into age groups, and each counselor is matched up with either one or two campers. Age groups generally rotate through the schedule as a group, although campers can ‘opt out’ of activities that they really don’t like so that a camper who is not partial to nature hikes, for example, can choose to visit the bouncy house with their counselor during that time.

We sleep in large cabins with all campers together with their unit counselors.  Cabins have between 8-14 beds with a bathroom and shower section inside the cabins. Campers are supervised at night as well. We eat family-style in a cafeteria, and we accommodate many different eating styles, including gluten-free, casein-free, pork-free diets, etc.

The main idea of our camp program is for everyone to enjoy themselves! We find that campers return home more confident, more independent, and with more friends, because we encourage them to be proud of who they are, and what they can do. Join us, and see what all the hype is about!

Minimum Requirement for Registration:  Dragonfly Forest accepts children across the Autism Spectrum (from Verbal to Non-Verbal, High Functioning to High Needs).  However, we do require campers to be fully independent with toileting and showering.  Counselors can provide verbal cues and instruction, but cannot offer hands-on assistance.  During the application process we will gather information on your camper's needs in this area.  Please be honest.  If you do not give us a complete picture of your camper we cannot assign the correct counselor(s) to them, and may have to send your child home from camp - no one wants that to happen!

NOTE:   Dragonfly Forest also offers the Explorer Program (Age 13 to 25).   This program is designed to help teach teens primarily with Autism or 22Q essential skills for transitioning to adulthood.   Please click on the Explorer Section of the Programs page to learn more about this program.
