Making Memories
On Saturday, October
29th, over 80 kids and
their families from our
summer program descended
on the Philadelphia
Museum of Art. The
Philadelphia Museum of
Art is one of the
city's’ most prestigious
venues. While at the
museum, our Dragonfly
Away campers were given
the opportunity to make
memory books, memory
boxes, frames and memory
calendars.
The event was held at
the Wintersteen Student
Center which is located
deep within the Art
Museum. This hauntingly
beautiful room with a
barrel-vaulted ceiling
holds artist John
Gregory’s
one-third-scale model of
Eastern Civilization.
While the campers were
reliving their memories
from camp, their parents
and siblings were given
guided tours of the
museum’s exhibits.
This Reunion Post-Camp
Event was designed to
provide Dragonfly Kids
with the opportunity to
see their fellow campers
after spending time with
them this summer. It
also gave parents and
guardians a chance to
share their experiences
with one another.
“The Dragonfly Away camp
program was organized
into three parts –
Anticipation, Camp, and
a Reunion,” says Fred
Weiner, Program Director
for Dragonfly Away. “We
wanted to have a venue
that allowed our campers
to share their camp
memories, relive the fun
and
remember some of the
lessons learned that
they took home from
camp.”
Our campers left the
museum with pages of old
memories and many new
memories and new
friends.
