With the help of The
Friends of the Forest,
spending a week at camp
this summer just got
easier for Philadelphia
area children with
serious illnesses.
Dragonfly Forest has
unveiled its 2006 summer
camp program (August 17
– 23, 2006) designed
specifically for
children with serious
illnesses.
According to Laura
Jansen, Chairman of
Dragonfly Forest, Inc.,
“Right now there are
nearly 4,000 children
between 6 - 18 years of
age from Central and
Eastern Pennsylvania who
are living with cancer
or serious blood
diseases such as Sickle
Cell and Hemophilia. If
you add the other
thousands of children
with other, very
serious, illnesses that
prevent them from
attending any sort of
mainstream summer camp,
you can see why we are
excited to be moving
into our second phase of
operation in the
Delaware Valley.”
Dragonfly Forest
has achieved threshold
status with The
Association of Hole in
the Wall Camps and very
happy to be able to use
their experience on
“do’s and don’ts” as it
creates a local camp
that serves the
Philadelphia community.
This newly announced
program for 2006 builds
upon Dragonfly Forest’s
successful first
overnight camping
experience, named
Dragonfly Away. This
program helped to send a
group of children from
the Philadelphia area,
along with local
community volunteers, to
established Hole in the
Wall Camps during the
summer of 2005.
Dragonfly Forest’s
campers come via a
referral network that
has been established
with Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia (CHOP),
rated the number one
children’s hospital in
the country, St.
Christopher’s Hospital
for Children, Temple
University Children’s,
The Shriner’s Hospital
in Philadelphia, and
other area hospitals.
“We are excited to make
2006 the year that
Dragonfly Forest is
available locally for
kids that, because of
their illnesses, feel
like outcasts in a
mainstream setting.”
said Fred Weiner,
Executive Director of
Dragonfly Forest. “From
August 17 – 23, 2006,
Dragonfly Forest
will be hosting their
first Philadelphia based
summer session of camp
by leasing Camp Green
Lane (CGL) in Green
Lane, PA.”
Founded in 1926, Camp
Green Lane lies nestled
among hundreds of
beautiful rolling acres
in rural, pristine,
Montgomery County,
Pennsylvania. Thousands
of families from all
over the United States
have considered Green
Lane their summer home.
It’s a place where kids
can enjoy just being
kids, where old
fashioned fun is the top
priority, where the
bottom line is
happiness.
“We are thrilled to have
Dragonfly Forest
at our facility,” said
Bob Billet, partner at
Camp Green Lane, “being
part of the team that is
bringing Dragonfly
Forest from concept
to reality is very
exciting for all of us
at Camp Green Lane.”
